What if someone told you that you could look 10 pounds thinner, 10 years younger, and 10 times more stylish, instantly? Sounds too good to be true, except it's not.
Let's talk about the Golden Ratio, and how we apply it to the theory of garment construction here at XOL Design.
Ancient Greeks understood that a 1/3 and 2/3 ratio in the division of space was the most aesthetically pleasing to the human eye. The Golden Ratio is based on Phi, which can be found everywhere within and without the human and natural world: architecture, art, outer space, trees and plants, and...fashion styling. Thus, you can look 10 times better if you follow the Golden Ratio, also called the Rule of Thirds.
Don't worry, this isn't a math lesson but instead a comment on how we use math to make you feel beautiful. We call it the Principle of 10X, and it's based on the concept of Phi, the Golden Ratio, and the Rule of Thirds.
Phi is all around us, and part of us too. From the way our galaxies spiral in outer space, to the spacing of petals on a rose; from the perfect spiral of a sea shell to the proportions of the human body, we are all influenced by it whether we know it by name or not.
So how do we apply this to outfits? There is plenty of advice on the Internet for anyone who is interested in finding out "their" perfect hemline, "their" perfect neckline, or pant leg width, or whatever. Here at XOL Design, we design for Everybody, and we design for Every Body.
This means we don't mind if the distance from the top of your head to your navel is exactly 1/3 of your total height, because our garments are designed to compensate for all the wonderful, different, heights and weights and shapes of us. Our garments are designed with the 1/3 and 2/3 ratio in mind, but also designed to be versatile in the number of ways it can be worn so you can achieve the Rule of Thirds by yourself, with other things you already own.
We started this practice with our flagship product, The Original Cozy. When we introduce a plaid or a checked colorway, we make sure that visually the balance fits within the Rule of Thirds or is easily paired with basic black pants to achieve the same result. Same thing for our paisley and medallion prints - the colors and patterns will always give you a head start to achieving the visual proportions that look best.
We are doing the math so you don't have to.
